Teaching

Bookbinding workshopI LOVE to teach.

I offer a range of bookbinding workshops appropriate for either students or teachers. I have worked in both traditional and non-traditional educational settings, art centers, and community festivals. Workshops are easily adapted to make them accessible to a variety of populations.

My goal is to provide students with as much information and guidance as possible, while at the same time offering them the freedom to explore and experiment. In my classes, I want students to feel both empowered and inspired by the work.

All of my bookbinding workshops provide the participants with a basic knowledge of bookbinding technique. You will receive a detailed handout and resource list for all materials used. Unless noted, workshops are open to students with all levels of experience.

Workshops that are currently scheduled are listed on my Events page.

I am available on both weekdays and weekends. Rates vary depending on preparation needs and project complexity. Materials fees are not included in rates.

  • Private Instruction: $35.00 per hour, per person
  • Workshops: $35.00 – $50.00 per hour, minimum 2 hours
  • School Programs: $250.00 – $400.00 per day, plus travel

Please contact me if you have any questions – I’d love to talk to you!

The Travel Companion Journal Studio Place Arts (SPA) | Barre, VT | June 6, 2012

    Wednesday June 13, 2012

Not only does travel offer you the opportunity to experience culture and adventure, but also the opportunity to invest in yourself. A travel journal is a wonderful way to create a tangible memory of your journey.

In this workshop, participants will create a journal with a double-needle coptic binding, an intricate stitch that will be visible on the spine of the book. Not only is the coptic binding beautiful, but it also allows books to remain flat when opened. The journal will include pockets both inside the covers and in the text block, allowing you the opportunity to save lots of stuff from your travels – tickets, photos, pressed flowers – you name it!

Participants are encouraged to bring small photos, paper ephemera, and/or other flat items to decorate the covers. Additional materials will be available for use during the class. In this two-day workshop, each participant will leave class with a completed book and basic knowledge of bookbinding technique. You will receive a detailed handout and resource list for all materials we use.

Some bookbinding or sewing experience is helpful, but not required.

    Cost: Members $55.00 / Non-Members $65.00

Materials fee: $15.00 to the instructor

Supplies: Awl, bonefolder, metal ruler (at least 18” long), X-Acto knife or utility knife, cutting mat, scissors, pencil, glue brush, small photos, paper ephemera, and/or other flat items, spring clamp (optional).

To personalize your journal: Collage materials (small bits of handmade paper, fabric, fibers, etc., rubber stamps, pads, markers, etc.
